The Living Systems Alliance

Around the world, communities are rediscovering how to live and lead in kinship with the living Earth. In a time of accelerating disruption, these initiatives are more vital than ever — living proof of how people, places, and the wider community of life can lead transformation together.

The Living Systems Alliance (LSA) has formed to strengthen those connections: a partnership between Transition Network International, The Biomimicry Institute, the Global Ecovillage Network, Kincentric Leadership, and the Permaculture Association. Together, we’re cultivating pathways for communities and regions to design and decide as and with nature,  weaving place-based action into a living fabric of wider transformation where many kinds of beings shape the future together.

Over the next two years, the LSA will:

  • Cocreate a toolkit — accessible practices for nature-centric design, decision-making, and governance for place-based  partnerships and global networks

  • Work with 8–10 regional partnerships to pilot and deepen these approaches, supporting place-based communities to act as catalysts of regeneration, resilience, and transformation.

  • Grow a global community of practice linking people, places, and movements that are bringing life’s intelligence into policy, planning, and everyday decisions.

  • Gather and share stories of humans as keystone species, highlighting real examples of communities working in deep alignment with nature to regenerate the living systems they belong to.

Who We Are

The Living Systems Alliance partners bring together:

  • Transition Network International – 20 years supporting community-led resilience in over a thousand groups across 67 countries

  • Permaculture Association – 43 years of permaculture education and practice

  • Global Ecovillage Network – 30 years pioneering community-led social-ecological innovation

  • Kincentric Leadership – Tools and networks centered on kinship with all life

  • The Biomimicry Institute – 20 years inspiring innovation based on nature's genius

Together, we reach thousands of local groups and practitioners, across a global movement of change-makers.

Become an LSA pilot region!

Are you part of a collaboration rooted in a particular place - a watershed, territory, or bioregion you are actively working in and with?

Between February 26 and April 5 2026, we are inviting applications from place-based partnerships to join the new Living Systems Alliance Community of Practice as one of up to ten pilot regions worldwide.

Over one year, selected partnerships will co-learn with leading practitioners from our organisations, alongside peers from around the world. Each partnership receives mentoring, shared tools, cross movement exchange, and a needs based stipend of £5,000 to £10,000.

This call is for existing, place-rooted partnerships working at a regional or bioregional scale. You might be a collaboration of different organisations - formal or not - such as community groups, indigenous land or territorial stewardship organisations, civil society groups, local authorities, cooperatives, ecovillages, transition initiatives, or local enterprises already working together. You do not need to describe your work as kincentric or living-systems led. What matters is that you are already working together with others in your region, and that you are open to growing your practice in relationship with Earth-others and the living systems you are part of.

Applications close 5 April 2026. The Community of Practice begins in June 2026.

If this feels aligned with your region, we warmly invite you to explore the full call and apply!
