Pathways to a
kincentic future

Launching the kincentric leadership toolkit

with Lyla June Johnston,
Paul Powesland & Shrishtee Bajpai

How do we move from an extractive civilisation to one where interdependence and kinship with all life are embedded in every aspect of how we live, lead, organise and make decisions?

What are the pathways towards that transition?

Where does the real power for change lie?

Join us in this online event for the launch of the Kincentric Leadership toolkit, and a rich conversation with three inspiring kincentric leaders - each offering a distinct perspective on how to shift systems of leadership, governance and culture toward life-centred ways of being.

Our three speakers offer distinct but interconnected pathways to kincentric futures: Lyla June draws on Indigenous land stewardship and ancestral governance; Shrishtee Bajpai works at the intersection of environmental and social justice, more-than-human governance, and grassroots alternatives; and Paul Powlesland brings an activist legal approach to embed the rights of nature in policy and practice.

Together, we’ll explore the role of different kincentric frameworks and also launch the exciting new collection of resources from Kincentric Leadership, curated to support people from all walks of life to bring kincentric principles, capacities and practices into their lives, communities and organisations.

In a dual landscape of exciting innovation and rapid awakening to the animacy and intelligence of the universe - alongside accelerating darkness and regression - join us for a hopeful, wide-ranging and practical dialogue on how we reach for a future rooted in reciprocity and reverence for life.

Dr Lyla June Johnston

Dr. Lyla June Johnston (aka Lyla June) is an Indigenous musician, author, and community organizer of Diné (Navajo), Tsétsêhéstâhese (Cheyenne) and European lineages. Her multi-genre presentation style has engaged audiences across the globe towards personal, collective, and ecological healing. She blends her study of Human Ecology at Stanford, graduate work in Indigenous Pedagogy, and the traditional worldview she grew up with to inform her music, perspectives and solutions. Her doctoral research focused on the ways in which pre-colonial Indigenous Nations shaped large regions of Turtle Island (aka the Americas) to produce abundant food systems for humans and non-humans.

Paul Powlesland

Paul Powlesland is a barrister, activist, and founder of Lawyers for Nature, working at the intersection of ecological justice and legal transformation. He advocates for the recognition of nature’s rights and the embedding of Earth-centred principles within legal, political and economic systems. Paul’s work includes campaigning for rivers to be granted legal personhood, supporting frontline land defenders, and reimagining law as a tool of kinship and stewardship. As both a practising lawyer and a passionate environmental activist, Paul challenges extractive systems from within — and helps build alternatives that honour the intrinsic value and agency of the more-than-human world. His vision bridges legal innovation, deep ecology and collective action.

Shrishtee Bajpai

Shrishtee Bajpai is a researcher‑activist from India working at the intersections of ecological justice, more‑than‑human governance, Indigenous worldviews, and systemic transformation. She is a long‑time member of Kalpavriksh, co‑coordinator of the Vikalp Sangam (Alternatives Confluence), a core member of the Global Tapestry of Alternatives, and serves on the executive committee of the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature. Shrishtee’s work amplifies biocultural systems—showcasing Indigenous practices that uphold ecological kinship and pluralistic, democratic decision‑making. She engages through participatory mapping, storytelling, and intergenerational learning to highlight grassroots alternatives to extractive paradigms.

"Kincentricity as a practice is necessarily and unapologetically rooted in love, in being a warrior for others. This kind of warrior is not a warrior who takes life, but a warrior that protects life"
